The ReadyNet Content Management System
To cater for web site management needs of smaller businesses, Oxford Internet Consultants have recently extended the Seahorse portfolio and launched a CMS called ‘ReadyNet’ (www.readynet.co.uk). The full-featured CMS allows content editors to publish their own articles, events and forums, without the need of knowing HTML.

ReadyNet is a CMS system that uses a template system incorporating the best of Plone, Zope and Apache web server. Programmers and non-programmers who do not have knowledge of HTML and other computing languages can easily use this system. ReadyNet has an extensive range of impressive features – too many to list!

Here is a snapshot of some of ReadyNet’s features:

Publishing capacity

  • A web-based interface is used to add, edit, delete and upload content. Content is separated from presentation
  • Publishing work-flow is handled by a combination of permissions (e.g. certain groups of people may create but not publish content), approval flags, go-live, review and expiry dates
  • All binary media types are supported. Binary files are stored within the database and are cached on disk for quick access.

Choice of publishing formats

  • ReadyNet allows content to be quickly uploaded as PDF documents. It also allows quick uploading of content as HTML and to be cut and paste from a Word document. It also includes features such as: tables, image insert and spell checking.

News Items and Events

  • A ReadyNet site is very suited to displaying (and removing) events and news item. An events and news portlet is automatically displayed on the site if there is something to show. A calendar is also available that displays forthcoming events.

Discussion fora

  • Support for simple discussion fora is a built-in feature of ReadyNet. By assigning permissions to the parent object it is possible to select who can see the discussion, who can post, who can moderate the discussion (if necessary) and who can administer it

Maintenance Tools

  • The ReadyNet CMS uses an advanced cut and paste system for finding, editing, moving and classifying content within the site.
  • Moving content around or making it appear in different sections is simply a case of cutting and pasting an icon into the appropriate location on the website.
  • The management system immediately identifies objects which are not visible to the general public, either because they are not published yet, or because they are due to go live in the future or have already expired.
